Spartacus: Blood and Sand este o amplă trecere în revistă a vieţii celui mai faimos gladiator roman - totul într-o notă sângeroasă, viscerală.
După ce este separat de iubirea vieţii lui, Spartacus este forţat să participe la lupte în arenă cu războinici şi fiare. Orice moarte violentă este o doză de distracţie căutată constant de iubitorii de divertisment ai acelor vremuri. Spartacus, însă, luptă pentru supravieţuire, nu pentru distracţie. Este nevoit să intre în jocuri politice murdare şi să-şi facă din inamici prieteni în acea lume controlată de corupţie, violenţă, sex şi reputaţie. El însuşi va simţi forţa de seducţie a puterii şi va fi chinuit de nevoia de răzbunare.
